This tunic offers a compelling glimpse into the versatility and personalised nature of the German Army NCO's uniform. It is a parade tunic that has been officially or unofficially converted for everyday wear—perhaps for "Sunday best" or walking-out duties when a formal parade was not required—a common practice that NCOs had the discretion to carry out.
The tunic identifies its wearer as an Oberfeldwebel (Company Sergeant Major, or Der Spieß) in the Signals branch, as evidenced by the distinctive lemon yellow piping (Waffenfarbe) found throughout the uniform.
Features of the conversion include a set of slip-on lemon yellow wool-piped shoulder boards. The dark green collar is adorned with mouse-grey universal Bevo woven collar patches and NCO tresse (braid). A slightly higher quality machine-embroidered Army breast eagle is fitted to the breast. The tunic has been enhanced with deep, distinctive turn-back cuffs featuring a double row of tresse. Furthermore, the rear has been converted to the aesthetic of the M40 or M43 style, suggesting a modernised appearance. Loops are fitted for two awards and a single short medal ribbon bar.
