GERMAN WWII ARMY PANZER BERET

A rare piece of headdress from the Third Reich period, the Panzer Beret. The exterior of the beret, which is in a very large size, has the standard twill weave in the cloth. There is some light moth tracking to the nap and what appears to be either paint or glue spots that have dropped onto the beret at some stage in its life.  Complete with its original untouched white on cream Bevo woven eagle and cockade, some threads of the eagle have degraded through age. Excellent tight fit to the beret base. The oilskin is in nice, bright condition with its silk-woven label of ‘G.A.Hoffmann, Berlin SW29’. The light tan sweatband stamped size ‘58’ also marked ‘B.II.40’. Where the beret has been folded in the heat, some of the black colour from the interior oilskin has melted onto the interior light tan lining material. On the outside of the liner band some various hand-applied digits, which have been half rubbed away but would appear to be some form of army designation.
