This is a scarce and highly desirable example of the iconic German WWII Army Panzer Beret, a distinctive piece of armored troop headgear worn during the early war period. Produced in 1940 and factory-marked by G.A. Hoffmann, Berlin SW29, this original beret showcases the unique construction and style associated with early Panzer units.

The beret, in an unusually large size, features the correct twirl weave wool exterior, showing only minor moth tracking and several small spots—possibly from paint or adhesive—consistent with its age and service use. The original white-on-cream Bevo woven Heer eagle and cockade remain affixed to the front, with some natural age-related thread degradation but still firmly attached and correctly fitted to the beret body.

Internally, the oilskin lining remains in bright, well-preserved condition, showing minimal wear. The interior bears a silk manufacturer's label from G.A. Hoffmann, a premier wartime uniform contractor. The light tan leather sweatband is clean, marked with the size “58” and stamped “B.II.40,” denoting its production in the second quarter of 1940. There is some heat transfer where the beret has been folded in storage, resulting in minor blackening from the oilskin onto the liner—entirely typical for an original piece of this age.

Of particular interest are the hand-applied numerical markings on the liner band, likely a form of regimental or unit identification, partially faded but adding further historical intrigue to the piece.

This original Panzer beret is a rare survivor and represents a truly collectible item from the German Wehrmacht's elite armored divisions. Its originality, clear maker marks, and wartime date make it a standout addition to any advanced WWII militaria collection.
