A good, large size, liner stamped ‘59’, the shell having no visible stampings. The exterior has various layers of paint over its original apple green. It has some battle damage to the crown, a split in the crown around which much rust has formed. The army decal is clear, as is the national decal, but losses to the central white part of the decal. The liner band is the model 40 pattern. We can only assume that when it was refinished, it was refinished in an ordnance depot. A later 40 pattern liner has been fitted, which is of the pigskin variety stamped size ‘59’ with its original drawstring and its original chinstrap, which is non-maker marked; the chinstrap has slightly solidified. We can only imagine that the helmet has suffered battle damage. The interior, although it is only a crack, may have been damaged by the wearer’s head, and the helmet has been sent back to ordnance for a replacement liner.
