An exceptional and historically significant German WWII Army General’s uniform set, once belonging to Major General Günther Angern—commander of the 16th Panzer Division during the Battle of Stalingrad and recipient of the Knight’s Cross of the Iron Cross. Born in March 1893, Angern served with distinction in both World Wars. Promoted to Generalmajor in 1942, he led his division through the harrowing siege of Stalingrad before taking his own life on 2nd February 1943, rather than surrender to Soviet forces.

The uniform comprises an outstanding M36-style General’s tunic and matching breeches, all in superb condition. The field-grey tunic is finely tailored with red piping to the skirt, cuffs, and dark green collar. It features high-quality bullion wire insignia, including gold and silver Generalmajor shoulder boards with red underlay, matching bullion collar tabs, and a gold wire breast eagle on green backing. All gold buttons are original and matching.

To the right breast are five loops for a medium-sized medal ribbon bar, along with loops below for two additional decorations. Inside, the tunic is lined in silk with a Leipzig tailor’s label, and a matching internal canvas tag inscribed “Gunther,” numbered “599” and dated “11/3/41.” A tailored hole and suspension clip are present for sword or dagger wear.

The accompanying General’s breeches are regulation grey with red stripes to each seam, completing the uniform set. Both tunic and breeches are free from moth damage, stains, or repairs.

A rare, museum-quality uniform with direct provenance to a high-ranking Wehrmacht commander who played a key role in one of WWII’s most pivotal battles.
