This is a remarkably rare piece of specialist headgear, representing the Chaplains Department of the German Army. The cap is a size 57 officer's overseas pattern and is in superb condition, being completely free from moth damage.
The cap is adorned with silver piping along the crown and the front scallop, signifying officer rank. It is fitted with high-quality, heavy bullion wire insignia, including the national eagle and a matching bullion cockade. Distinctive to this branch, the cap features the inverted V waffenfarbe in violet. A defining characteristic of this specific department is the small metal Chaplains Cross positioned neatly between the eagle and the cockade.
The interior is lined with a grey-green satin material in excellent condition. It features a light tan leather forehead sweatband which bears the stamped mark Qualitat Marke. Adding significant historical value to this piece is an accompanying original photograph of the owner in his chaplain's uniform; while he is wearing a visor cap in the image, it provides a direct personal link to the original wearer of this overseas cap.
