A well service-used black Panzer wrap-over tunic, complete with its slip-on pink silk-piped shoulder boards and matching pink silk-piped collar patches, both showing oxidisation to the mid-to-late war Panzer skulls. The breast eagle is the mid-war style, grey Bevo weave on black backing. An Iron Cross 2nd Class ribbon and East Front Medal ribbon are fitted through the upper buttonhole.
The tunic shows heavy service wear, with the nap of the cloth worn thin overall except in protected areas beneath the collar and under the wide wrap-over fronts. There is no evidence of moth damage. A stitch repair is present to the back of the collar where the material has worn through. The cloth contains substitute fibres, with the variation in colour of these materials visible across the garment.
All four closure buttons are present. The original wearer created four outer buttonholes in the front to make opening and closing the tunic easier, avoiding the need to reach inside the fly front. There are no patches or repairs beyond the collar stitch work, just general staining, especially on the medal ribbons.
Inside, extra shoulder padding has been inserted by the wearer. The Munich maker’s label is present but indistinct, though the word “München” remains clear. Full size markings are visible, along with the designation ‘M40’, indicating that substitute materials were already in use as early as 1940. Some loose stitching is visible under each armpit. The lining is the standard grey cotton type, identical to that found in M36 tunics.
A good opportunity to acquire a well-worn, personally modified Panzer wrap with clear evidence of field service.
