A very fine M40 combat helmet, factory marked ‘Q64’, finished in the correct tropical shade of pinkish-tan used in North Africa. Around 70% of the original paint finish remains, with the worn areas clearly visible in images. The vast majority of tropical-painted helmets found today are Luftwaffe issue, making army-issued examples such as this extremely scarce. Only faint traces of the army decal are still visible.
The interior shows the inner rim painted in tropical colour, with the original factory grey paint retained to the upper skull. The liner is intact apart from one missing tongue, and still fitted with its original drawstring. The full-length chinstrap with aluminium buckle is present, along with the 1940 pattern zinc liner band. The batch number is indistinct.
A rare and highly desirable true army-issued Afrikakorps helmet, seldom encountered in such original condition.
