A fine example, size 56, of a 2nd pattern tropical visored field cap, issued to an officer of the Afrikakorps. The cap retains its untouched Bevo woven blue-on-tan eagle and cockade, complemented by the field adaptation of corded officer-style piping to the crown and front scallop. The zinc eyelets show minor paint lift, but otherwise the cap is undamaged.
The interior shows light wear consistent with service, with the original owner’s name applied. In addition to the size stamping, the cap bears the model number ‘42’ and the maker’s mark ‘Karl Kubach, Mainz’. A distinctive feature of Kubach-produced caps is the combination leatherette and canvas sweatband. A rare and well-preserved example of Afrikakorps tropical headgear.
