A rare original Model 40 visored field cap worn by an enlisted man in an Army cavalry unit serving in Afrika. This example shows clear evidence of field use, with significant sun bleaching to the exterior, along with staining to the crown and front peak.
The insignia set is untouched and fully correct for this branch and theatre, featuring the tan-on-brown Bevo woven eagle above the first pattern multicoloured cockade, both neatly surrounded by the inverted V in cavalry golden yellow piping. All four air vents show oxidisation typical of service in desert conditions.
The interior retains its full red lining, with partial remains of the Frankenstein manufacturer’s stamp, along with a clearly dated 1942 mark and size 56.
A rarely encountered piece of DAK headgear with strong character and original features throughout.
