A genuine, well-used visor field cap from the Afrikakorps, this upgraded officer’s piece features silver bullion waffenfarbe around the crown and front scallop, now completely oxidised. The original enlisted eagle has been removed and replaced with a silver wire officer’s eagle on a green Bevo woven backing. A standard enlisted Luftwaffe cockade remains, fitted with red inverted V waffenfarbe indicative of an artillery unit.
Produced by Karl Halfar, size 57, dated 1940, the cap shows extensive wear including rust stains of unknown origin, visible stitching inside where the officer’s cording was added, and oxidisation on the zinc air vents. A superb example of a combat-worn Afrikakorps field cap.
