This is a very desirable example of the first pattern tropical tunic worn by the Afrikakorps in North Africa, specifically tailored for a Medical Officer. The tunic adheres to the standard tropical design, featuring a five-button front closure and four patch pockets, all detailed with flaps and pleats.

The insignia applied to this tunic is particularly noteworthy, representing a combination often seen in the field. The rank is indicated by a set of continental pattern Medical Lieutenant's shoulder boards, which are constructed on a distinctive blue wool base, signifying the medical branch (Waffenfarbe). These are matched by continental blue-centred wire woven collar patches also set on a blue base. A standard enlisted ranks breast eagle, embroidered in blue thread on a tan backing, is fitted above the right pocket.

The ribbon of the War Service Cross is correctly fitted through the upper buttonhole, signifying an award received by the wearer. The tunic has seen genuine service wear, evidenced by quite considerable staining around the lower part of the cuffs, which is often characteristic of tropical use in the harsh desert environment. Aside from this staining, there is no other visible damage or repairs.
