German WWII 3rd Standarte Oberscharfuhrer Shoulder Board

This is a well-preserved example of a 1937 pattern shoulder strap, designed for an Oberscharfuhrer within the 3rd Standarte of the Totenkopf units. The strap is of the traditional wide construction featuring the characteristic pointed top.

The board is adorned with silver tress, which shows an attractive and authentic level of oxidisation consistent with its age. It is fitted with a single white metal rank pip and a white metal numeral 3, indicating the specific regimental affiliation. The construction consists of a black wool underside and a field grey slip-on tab, allowing for its attachment to the uniform tunic.

The overall condition is very good, with the materials remaining structurally sound and the insignia firmly attached. This pattern represents the transition in uniform design during the late 1930s and is a significant piece for those studying the evolution of departmental insignia.
