This is a highly interesting and rare publication from December 1934, measuring 26.5 x 18.5 cm. The periodical is titled Ostasiatischer Beobachter (East Asian Observer) and served as a news organ for regional party branches and German expatriate communities located in China and Japan.
Across its 51 pages, the publication provides a detailed record of news, photographs, and advertisements relevant to the German presence in Asia during the mid-1930s. The content includes photographic reports on domestic events in Germany alongside images of overseas groups active in Tientsin, Canton, and Hong Kong. It also features a photograph of a non-uniformed group gathering in Bangkok, Thailand. Numerous advertisements from German commercial firms operating in Shanghai are included, offering a unique look at the economic ties of the period.
Accompanying the magazine is a rare surviving half of the front page from the Deutsche Shanghai Zeitung newspaper, dated 18 November 1934. Together, these documents provide a significant historical insight into the administrative and social activities of German organisations operating in the Far East during the early years of the Third Reich.
