This is an extremely well-preserved field grey tunic for an officer serving in the 5th (Westphalian) Uhlan Regiment. The garment is a good upper-medium size and is expertly tailored from standard field grey ribbed cloth, characteristic of the mid-war period.
The tunic features the traditional red piping throughout, maintaining the distinct identity of the Uhlan cavalry. The shoulder boards are the slip-on style for the rank of Lieutenant, piped in red and white and featuring the regimental number 5 at the centre of each. All buttons are of correct officer quality. For gallantry awards, two loops are present on the lower left breast for the mounting of an Iron Cross. The interior lining is entirely complete and remains in an undamaged state.
The overall condition is excellent, showing only two minor moth nips to the upper right shoulder at the rear. Beyond these small points, the tunic is completely free of moth damage, repairs, or restorations. This is a crisp and clean example of Imperial German cavalry field wear.
