We have stated previously that German camouflage helmets of WWI have risen tremendously in price and have in themselves become an art form depending on the camouflage patterns. Most patterns are separated by black lines and are three-colour. It is very unusual to obtain a splotch pattern helmet. This example has been completely over-painted from its original apple green in splotches of ochre, green, brown and cream. The helmet has its M.17 steel liner band. It has all three of its liner pads; one is completely adrift from the band itself. All three inner horse pads are missing, but the original leather drawstring is present.
