A superb battlefield pick-up, all leather pickelhaube, small size, a battle-damaged shrapnel crease just to the left of the front plate. The helmet skull is crazed overall; both peaks are securely attached to the main body, and the stitching has not rotted. All of the brass fittings have toned. The front plate is the standard Prussian eagle, but with the motto‘Fuerst’ at the base of the eagle’s head. Complete with its nickel double-constructed Saxon Weimar overlay plate, with both of its national cockades in red, white and black, Thuringen Saxon Weimar cockade in green, white and green. Totally original strap. Beautifully marked faintly to the inner rear peak in ink ‘IR 95’ with a date of ‘1902’. The interior liner is all complete with its original drawstring. A small tear to the lining where it joins the lower half of the helmet, approximately 4 cm in length. An owner’s name has been hand-applied in pencil to the inner skull, which still retains a lot of original colour. Obtaining any of these rarer States helmets, which have regimental markings, is extremely difficult, especially in an untouched condition such as this.
