A well-preserved example of a German WWI Saxon Reserve Uhlan helmet, featuring a solid leather body with the correct non-removable tin mortarboard top. The leather skull remains in excellent condition, complete with its original Saxon Reserve enlisted ranks front plate—gilt brass with a nickel Coat of Arms of Saxony positioned over the Reserve Cross.
The correct Saxon field cockade in white and green is fitted to the top, with the national black, white, and red enlisted ranks cockade mounted to the right side as worn. Brass trim is present along the front peak, and the helmet is fitted with standard domed chinscales on clips.
To the interior, the 10-tongued leather liner is fully intact, with one tongue showing a tip break and the lower edge displaying some minor, stabilized leather rot. Despite this, the liner remains correctly fitted and secure.
A fine example from one of Imperial Germany’s more distinctive cavalry regiments.
