German WWI Saxon Regiment 106 Model 1887 Pickelhaube

A rare leather pickelhaube, Model 1887, for an infantryman of Saxon Infantry Regiment 106. Unusually, this example is stamped 1885, predating the official introduction of the model by two years. Fitted with all brass fittings, including the Saxon front plate, correct style chinstrap, and one Saxon cockade to the right-hand side, as was standard for the period. The green and white Saxon State cockade appears to be a later replacement. The skull is strong and in good condition, with faint traces of the original owner’s name visible to the inner back peak.
