A scarce and imposing Saxon Guard Reiter enlisted ranks helmet; this all-steel Model 1894 example features a very large size skull with no visible damage or repairs. The front peak shows slight polished corrosion, while the rear retains the distinctive raised ridge typical of Saxon Guard helmets. Brass trim encircles the entire rim, and the helmet is fitted with its original oval-shaped brass spike base and removable spike.
The large Saxon Guard Reiter front plate displays minor indentations; the domed brass chin scales are intact, accompanied by national and Saxon cockades, the former showing some paint loss. A small hole at the very rear of the peak suggests it was once mounted as a wall display. Internally, the leather liner is complete apart from one missing tongue, with the original drawstring still in place. The green-painted interior behind the front plate has congealed over time, and the leather lining at the rear peak remains present, though slightly loose. A fine and uncommon heavy cavalry relic from Imperial Germany.
