This is a leather spiked helmet for an enlisted man serving in a Saxon infantry regiment. The leather skull shows light surface crazing. Both the front and rear peaks are attached to the main body, with some loose stitching noted on the rear peak.
The helmet is equipped with matching brass fittings, which include the rear spine, a non-removable spike with a circular base, the front peak trim, and the Saxon state front plate. The front plate is original to the piece, and there are no extra holes in the leather body.
The helmet includes its leather chinstrap along with the national and Saxon state cockades. Regarding the interior, the main liner band is present, although the leather tongues are missing. This is a complete exterior example of regional Great War headgear.
