GERMAN WWI SAXON BATTLEFIELD PICK-UP PICKELHAUBE

A highly interesting brass-mounted Saxon pickelhaube, small-size skull. All the fittings are in brass, with its original chinstrap and its original non-serrated national and Saxon State cockades. Peak trim is good, but the liner has half rotted away. The rear peak has been affected by fire, indicating that this was a battlefield pick-up helmet. The rear peak is complete, there is one split, and it has congealed and solidified. Faint maker mark and date of ‘1915’ visible on the upper inner crown.
