German WWI Reich Marine Airship Unit (Zeppelin) Deck Cap

An exceptionally rare First World War Reich Marine deck cap, worn by members of the Zeppelin airship units. Constructed in dark blue cloth and in excellent condition throughout, free from moth or damage. Small size, approximately 53. The cap is fitted with its original and highly desirable tally embroidered ‘II. Marine Luftschiffer Abteilung. II’ in Roman numerals, with full-length tails still present. To the interior, it retains its complete leather sweatband, the faint remains of a paper label, and is clearly marked ‘B.A. (possibly R)’ for Reich Marine, dated 17th April 1914, with an additional block stamp ‘1.M.L.A.’ (1st Marine Luftschiffer Abteilung). Finished with its single Reich Marine national cockade. A very scarce and fine example of Zeppelin unit headgear.
