A very rare holster, the main body identical to a Luger PO8 holster but with an added rear suspension system, both stitched and riveted to the main holster with a forward-facing belt loop system for the mounted troops of the Reich Gendarmerie. The stitching is good and strong overall, with both belt loops present. The maker’s name in Strasbourg has had a hole punctured through it. Marked to the back strap piece ‘R.G.14’, also unit marked ‘R.G.14’ to the interior of the holster. It would appear that a small section of the holster has been cut away to allow the fitting of possibly another type of pistol. The holster is with its closing strap. The Reich Gendarmerie was the occupation police of the area of Alsace-Lorraine ( capital of Alsace is Strasbourg ) between 1870 and 1918. A rare Luger accessory.
