This is a superior example of a Prussian officer's helmet plate (wappen), produced to the 1897 pattern. The item is in factory mint condition, exhibiting an exceptional level of preservation that is rarely encountered.
The front of the plate retains its full, original bright gilt finish, which remains as vivid as when it was first manufactured. The detail in the eagle's plumage, the scepter, the orb, and the Prussian crown is incredibly sharp and well-defined. This plate represents the highest standard of late 19th and early 20th-century military insignia production.
The reverse side is equally well-preserved and features the correct two screw-threaded lugs for secure attachment to the leather helmet shell.
