This is a magnificent example of an Imperial German Hussar officer's tunic, dating to approximately 1915. Representing Hussar Regiment Number 4, this garment is constructed from field grey cloth of the highest quality, reflecting the prestige of the Prussian cavalry during the Great War.
The tunic is adorned with intricate field grey and black lacework across the chest and cuffs, and all original closure olives remain present. The lower left breast features loops for the mounting of an Iron Cross. The shoulder boards are those of a Prussian Lieutenant and are fitted with the regimental number 4. The interior of the tunic contains a name label identifying the original owner as Lieutenant Von Tichman. The two lower pockets are neatly edged in matching field grey and black lace.
The overall condition is exceptional; with the exception of a single moth hole to the lower rear skirt, the tunic is entirely free from moth damage, repairs, or restorations. This is a rare and beautiful survivor of the transition from the ornate traditional uniforms of the 19th century to the functional field grey of the First World War.
