This is an excellent condition example of a highly specialised helmet plate (wappen) worn by the 10th and 46th Artillery Regiments, specifically the 4th and 6th Battalions. The plate is of One Year Volunteer or NCO quality, demonstrating a high level of detail and finish.
The design features the Prussian-style eagle, but it is distinguished by the inclusion of specific Battle Honour scrolls for Peninsula, Waterloo, and Gohrde. These honours were unique to these two regiments, making this a particularly significant piece for collectors of Imperial German artillery insignia. The plate retains approximately 99% of its original factory finish, showing remarkably little wear.
The reverse side is complete with its two original wire loops for secure attachment to the pickelhaube. The structural integrity is superb, with all the fine details of the eagle and the honour scrolls remaining sharp and well-defined.
