German WWI Prussian Foot Artillery Reserve Officers Helmet with Cover

A well-preserved all-leather helmet skull, featuring a pencil size ‘57’ on the original paper manufacturer’s label located behind the front plate. The leather skull is in excellent overall condition with only minor surface crazing. Both the front and rear peaks are securely stitched to the main body. The gilt on the ball top is slightly subdued, with good gilt remaining on the ball top circular base and traces present on the rear strap.

The reserve officers front plate displays good gilt with slight toning to the edges, featuring the reserve officers cross below. The flat chin scales have subdued gilt, accompanied by both the officers’ State and national cockades.

The interior includes a light tan leather sweatband showing signs of wear and its original inner silk lining, which has some shredding. The helmet comes complete with its original combat field cover; one of the tapes securing the ball top cover is detached from the cover body. The cover bears the initials ‘HD’ applied to the rear peak.
