A very fine untouched example of the field-grey felt ersatz Pickelhaube, retaining a superb “sleepy” patina throughout. The upper medium-size felt skull remains completely firm and undamaged, with only a single small hole to the rear peak where it was once affixed for display.
All brass fittings are perfectly matched and have developed an attractive toned finish. The helmet retains its original national and state cockades, chinstrap, and matching brass buckles. The front peak trim shows two minor splits but remains firmly in place.
The interior is fitted with its original 10-tongue leather liner, with one tongue absent and the tip of another missing; the remainder are intact and supple. Overall, an excellent and scarce example of a Prussian felt ersatz Pickelhaube with great character.
