This is an exceptionally rare find, representing a final opportunity from a small, historic quantity of enlisted ranks Feldmützen (field caps) that were discovered some years ago, including both Prussian and Württemberg examples. This particular piece is a stunning example of a German WWI Prussian field cap in near mint, virtually unissued condition.

The cap retains the crisp, clear quality of its original manufacture. It has all the 'nap' of the cloth still present and even exhibits a distinct central fold mark, indicating where the cap was folded flat for long-term storage, likely since the time of the Great War.

It is made from the standard field grey wool material with a red band and features the correct red Waffenfarbe piping around the crown. The cap is fitted with the correct Prussian enlisted ranks cockades.

The interior boasts a virtually pure white lightweight cotton lining, which shows no signs of field wear. The lining is marked with the size '53' (possibly a stamped code) and is ink stamped with the size '57' in two places. It is also clearly 'Koblenz' maker marked, providing an important detail of its provenance. This cap is a superb survival and a highly desirable piece of First World War headwear.
