A superb example, virtually mint, possibly one of the thousands sold by the U.S. Government on War Bond drives after the war. Small size stamped ‘52’. The leather exterior skull is in excellent condition with all stitching to the front and back peaks intact and secure. The front field grey peak trim is undamaged and free of kinks. All fittings—including the removable spike, circular spike base, back strap, Prussian front plate, front peak trim, and strap fittings—are in excellent condition, with a slight shade difference between the spike and the other fittings. The national and Prussian cockades are complete and appear as mint as the day they were made.
The interior retains its original light tan skull and full 8-tongue liner with original drawstring. The helmet bears an inked rectangular maker’s stamp ‘Berlin 1915’ and an additional inked number ‘5’, possibly indicating the 5th Army Corps. Unit or corps markings are faintly visible on the rear peak but difficult to fully ascertain.
