A rare and evocative WWI Prussian pickelhaube, constructed from cork and covered in field grey canvas in four neatly joined sections. Both the front and rear peaks remain securely attached to the main body, and the matching patina of the front plate, spike, and circular spike base suggests all components are original to the helmet.
The national and state cockades are present, though the chinstrap is missing. There is a crack in the cork just below the spike base, causing the spike assembly to sink slightly into the helmet. The interior features a complete, non-tongue form leather liner. Of particular note are two small holes just above the Prussian state cockade, likely caused by shrapnel—strongly indicating this was a battlefield pick-up. A scarce and character-rich example.
