A classic all-leather Prussian field artillery officers’ helmet with natural crazing to the leather and minor losses, showing honest service wear. The front and rear peaks are firmly attached to the main body. Fittings—including the backstrap, ball top and base, Prussian front plate, and strap fittings—are uniform, in patinated deep brown brass.
Complete with original state and national cockades. The nine-tongued leather liner is in excellent condition with its original drawstring, stamped ‘57’ inside, with faint remnants of a maker’s mark on the inner rear peak. A linen label inside bears the name and rank of the original owner, 2nd Battery, Artillery Regiment 59. The original leather wedges securing the front plate have been replaced with British tunic button clips, suggesting the helmet may have been taken from a prisoner.
