All leather helmet, crazed overall to the skin, some minor losses to the skin, the front and rear peaks securely attached to the main body, the fittings which include the backstrap, ball top and ball top base, Prussian front plate, strap fittings all match in a patinated deep brown brass. Complete with its state and national cockades, nine-tongued leather liner in excellent condition with original drawstring, ink stamp 57 to the interior with faint traces of a maker’s stamp applied to the inner rear peak, Linen label with the name and rank of the owner of the helmet, 2nd Battery Artillery Regiment 59. The original leather wedges that hold the front plate in place have been replaced by British tunic button clips, indicating the helmet was probably taken from a prisoner.
