An excellent example of the Prussian 1860/1870 Model Dragoon helmet for enlisted ranks. The heavy, thick leather skull is in superb condition with both front and rear peaks firmly attached. Fitted with the standard Dragoon cross base and non-removable spike, along with the Prussian Dragoon-type eagle plate.
The later clip-over brass chin scales are a perfect match, complete with both national and Prussian later pattern cockades. The front peak trim remains in excellent, undamaged condition. All brass fittings have developed a pleasing tone.
Faint markings are present to the rear peak, while the interior retains part of the original paper label with “Dragoon Regiment” visible but the number indistinct. The leather liner is complete, with one tongue collector-repaired. These early helmets underwent various ordnance updates over their service life, explaining the later chin scale attachments and scales.
