A large size Q66 M.17 trench helmet featuring the remnants of its original three-colour camouflage, combining stripe and small block patterns in an unusual lighter shade of maroon not commonly seen. Narrow black separation lines accentuate the design. The front bears the original post home label addressed to ‘Mr. F. Landry, 943 State Street, Springfield, Massachusetts, USA,’ with the sender’s name ‘Private R.R. Landry’ also inscribed.
The interior rear skirt shows faded remains of the same label. Complete with its original shrivelled and slightly congealed three-section sweatband and drawstring, this helmet offers a rare glimpse into personal WWI correspondence and battlefield equipment.
