A scarce Picklehaube for the infantry regiment 88. The faint remains of the marking of IR 88 can be seen in the rear peak when the helmet is held in good light. The all-leather skull is generally good with some minor creasing and congealing, the front and rear peaks securely attached to the main body of the helmet, all of the brass fittings, which include the backstrap, spike and circular spike base, Prussian front plate with its Oldenburg overlay star in nickel. The helmet is complete with its national and Oldenburg cockades, a nice, grained leather with subdued brass fittings. To the interior, the 10-tongue liner is all intact, some of the tongues slightly creased but not broken.
