A scarce and desirable example of an enlisted man’s pickelhaube from the Oldenburg Jäger Regiment 91—one of the hardest Imperial German regiments to source. This all-leather helmet is presented in an unusually large size, with the exterior showing expected age-related crazing but retaining its shape well.

The construction is typical of some wartime examples, with the front and rear peaks pressed as part of the skull rather than added separately. All fittings are brass, including the standard Prussian front plate with the distinctive Oldenburg star affixed above.

Fitted with its original leather chinstrap with brass buckles, and complete with the correct national and Oldenburg state cockades. The interior features a 9-tongued leather liner in superb condition. Marked to the reverse of the rear peak with ‘O.J.R.91’ and a further faint depot mark to the opposite side.

A rare helmet from a seldom-seen state regiment, made even more interesting by its non-standard construction.
