A rare and untouched barn-find example, this officer’s Pickelhaube belonged to the 1st or 3rd Battalion of Grenadier Regiment 89, raised in the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin. The black leather skull remains solid with only minor distortion, and both front and rear peaks are firmly attached with strong, original stitching. All gilt brass fittings have aged to a deep, subdued patina, giving the helmet a rich period character.
Inside, the original leather liner is intact, complete with its inner cloth lining. The Mecklenburg state cockade is unfortunately missing, but the helmet remains an increasingly difficult-to-find example from a lesser-seen Imperial regiment. A fine and honest piece for the WWI German helmet collector.
