A highly unusual example of a World War I M16 trench helmet, produced by the scarce maker Quist, size 66. This helmet features an exceptionally rare and distinctive camouflage pattern — one unlike any we’ve encountered before — making it a true rarity among surviving examples.
The shell is hand-painted in a heavy dark green base with irregular patches of brown and white, creating a unique camouflage effect. Some areas show natural wear, atmospheric fading, and minor losses to the finish, visible in our detailed images.
The helmet retains its original three-pad liner, with one pad showing a period-style but non-contemporary repair. The original horsehair pads and drawstring remain in place. The leather has been treated at some stage, slightly altering its tone. The chinstrap, of heavier construction than standard issue, appears to have been modified from a wartime utility strap.
Traces of the original apple green factory paint are visible to the interior skirt. An exceptional and characterful example of a rare camouflage variant.
