A very nice untouched ‘BF64’ stamped shell M.17 trench helmet. The exterior shell retains virtually all its original apple green finish with some rust bleed in places, which can hopefully be seen on our website images. To the interior, the M.17 white liner is all in place with its original drawstring, and each liner pad has its interior stuffed pad.  Added to this is the ultra-rare chinstrap, which is frail but is complete. Hand applied to the interior of the skirt is the name of the original wearer, Himmelstoss Stab Res. Feld 6’. At some point in its service life, the rear large rivet has been removed and soldered in place in the side aperture for the liner fitting pins, and the rear pin aperture left vacant. Interestingly, the name Himmelstoss was the name given to the character in the film and novel All Quiet on the Western Front. We can only speculate whether there is a connection.
