This is a rare and highly prestigious visor cap from one of the premier cavalry regiments of the Imperial German Army. It is an NCO grade cap in a desirable size, approximately 56 or 57. The cap features an all-black body which is in excellent condition and free from moth damage. There are two minor moth nips noted on the upper white waffenfarbe piping, but these do not detract significantly from the overall appearance.
The cap is distinguished by its red centre band, bordered on both the upper and lower edges with white waffenfarbe. The insignia is particularly impressive, featuring an NCO quality national cockade at the top and an enlisted ranks one-piece Prussian State cockade below. Positioned prominently between the two cockades is the iconic jawless skull and crossbones (Totenkopf) unique to Leib Hussar Regiment No.1.
The front peak shows some light age-related congealing to the surface finish. Moving to the interior, the cap is fitted with an ersatz variety sweatband. The inner tan lining shows some general discolouration consistent with its age and service use, but it remains in good structural condition. This is a rare opportunity to acquire a piece of headwear from one of the most famous regiments in German military history.
