German WWI Iron Cross and Bavarian Award — Identified

A well-preserved 1914 Iron Cross Second Class with its original ribbon, paired with a Bavarian Military Service Cross Third Class with Swords, also complete with ribbon. Included is a poignant memorial card to Ludwig Ortner of Chevauleger Regiment No. 8.

The card records his death on 21 March 1918, the opening day of the German Spring Offensive. His photograph shows him in the distinctive Chevauleger uniform, the regiment’s number 8 clearly visible on the shoulder strap, and wearing a K98/84 bayonet. A rare and fully identified grouping.
