German WWI Hood Gas Mask

A rare example of the German WWI hood-style gas mask, the equivalent of the British version, utilising the standard filter and eyepieces found on the tin-issued model. Constructed from grey cloth, which shows some moth tracking to the nap but only two small moth holes to the rear. The interior is white cotton lined and features the original label of the issued soldier, Gefreiter Thurner, 19th Company, 18th Infantry Regiment. The lining shows expected service staining and retains its original neck drawstring. A scarce and highly atmospheric Great War gas defence item.
