An ultra-rare enlisted man’s Pickelhaube from the Hesse Lieb-Garde Infantry Regiment No. 115. This helmet retains all its correct white metal fittings, including the distinctive 1621 scroll, original chinstrap, and proper national and Hessian state cockades, along with a matching front peak trim.
The helmet shows clear signs of battle damage, most notably a shrapnel hole piercing the leather skull near the left tail of the 1621 scroll, slightly deforming it. Additional compression creasing is visible on the leather throughout.
The rear peak, though solidified, remains firmly attached to the body but shows slight looseness on the right side when viewed from the rear, similar to the front peak. A non-contemporary repair has been applied to the fixing lug on the upper left tail of the 1621 scroll—visible only on the interior.
The original nine-tongued liner is complete but dry and cracked in places. Very faint traces of the regimental marking ‘115’ remain visible inside the rear peak.
A striking and historically significant piece, embodying the harsh realities of frontline service.
