A high-quality and complete display piece of a German WWI Gew 98 scope, complete with its original mount and brown leather lens caps. Manufactured by the renowned optics maker Dr. Walter Gerrard, Charlottenburg, the scope is clearly marked with the maker’s name, as well as serial number 20541 beneath the upper adjustment wheel.

The body is further marked GEW 737, believed to correspond to the display piece it was originally paired with. The leather connector linking the two end caps is present but has detached from one end.

An excellent period optical display item with clear historical significance. For further reference on this maker and similar examples, see German Sniper Rifles by Wacker and Vries, pages 14–17.
