A rare and well-preserved example of a Bavarian WWI ersatz pickelhaube, constructed in one-piece fibre and remaining in excellent condition. This is a desirable large size 57, uncommon for enlisted helmets of the period.
The front peak is fitted with a brass trim, while the rear peak has a steel edge, finished in black to match the fibre body. The non-removable spike and base are brass, as is the matching Bavarian wappen.
A good leather chinstrap is present, complete with both national and Bavarian State cockades. The interior features a full leather liner with some wear to the tips of the nine tongues. A clear size stamp in red ink, ‘57’, is visible near the central vent cut-out.
A fine and increasingly difficult-to-find ersatz example from the Kingdom of Bavaria.
