German WWI Entrenching Tool with Ersatz Steel Cover

An exceptionally rare World War I German entrenching tool with its ersatz steel cover, not seen in photographic references. The shovel retains its original field grey-green finish and is fitted with a DRGM-stamped steel holder featuring twin leather belt loops and a single long leather closure strap that secures over a lug. The wooden haft remains in good condition.
