A very nice example of the all-steel bodied Cuirassier Lobstertail helmet; produced by C.E. Juncker and dated 1916. The helmet remains in excellent original condition, with no dents, indentations, or restoration to the body. Finished in field grey, it features the correct patinated Cuirassier-style front plate, easily identified by the feather detailing behind the central ‘FR’ on the shield—distinctive to this helmet type.
Fitted with its original leather chinstrap; showing slight surface rusting to the steel fittings. The interior bears the clear maker’s stamp ‘C.E. Juncker, 1916’ to the upper skull. The light tan leather liner is mostly intact; the tips of many tongues have congealed over time, and parts of the original drawstring remain.
The interior of the front peak retains its original green paint; the rear peak still shows its original black finish. The helmet is size-stamped ‘56.5’ to the lower rim. As standard with Imperial Cuirassier helmets, it is fitted with large-sized cockades—this example retains its original Prussian cockade, while the national cockade, although larger than standard Pickelhaube size, is slightly undersized compared to full Cuirassier issue.
The spike is the correct barrel type specific to Cuirassier helmets and has not been altered or replaced with a Pickelhaube type. An additional hole has been drilled through the rear of the lobster tail for wall display—something commonly seen in examples sourced from the United States.
Overall, a very good and original Prussian Cuirassier man’s Lobstertail helmet.
