An excellent and well-preserved example of a Bavarian Reserve Field Artillery Officer’s pickelhaube; this good-sized all-leather helmet features a superbly maintained skull with only minor heat-induced creasing. The gilt fittings are outstanding, including the deeply struck fluted plume holder, cross base, and a finely detailed front plate with a cut-out officer’s crown, overlaid with a white metal reserve officer’s cross. Domed gilt chin scales remain intact, and the square-cut front peak adds to its distinctive Bavarian form.
Both national and Bavarian State officer-quality cockades are present. Internally, the light tan sweatband shows minimal wear, while the silk lining has some light age staining. The helmet is topped with its original red parade hair plume and housed in its fitted conical traveling case, complete with fully functional closure strap. A striking and complete officer’s parade helmet from the Kingdom of Bavaria.
