A superb large-size Model 1915 bluse with modified stand collar, worn by an Oberleutnant of the 1st Bavarian Artillery Regiment. The field-grey cloth retains excellent nap throughout and shows no moth damage. It features the correct 1915 deep barrel cuffs, skirted back, and all Bavarian exterior buttons, with matching horn fly-closure buttons. The silver bullion shoulder boards, flecked with Bavarian blue, are fitted with gilt rank stars and the gilt numeral ‘1’. Inside, the tunic has a private-purchase lining with a full tailor’s label from ‘Schmidt of Neu-Ulm’. Hidden within one of the rear skirt pockets were the remains of a Feldpost letter dated February 1918 to an officer named Frickhin of Munich, along with a telegram from February 1923, suggesting the tunic may have seen further wear during the Freikorps period. An excellent and highly atmospheric Bavarian officer’s uniform.
