A rare and exceptional example of a Baden enlisted man’s pickelhaube in virtually unused condition. Likely one of the thousands sold by the U.S. Government as War Bonds after WWI, this large size example is stamped ‘57’ and remains near mint. The exterior skull shows excellent preservation with all stitching intact and free from rot. The front peak trim is straight and unmarked, and all fittings—including the back strap, removable spike with circular base, and Baden front plate—display a uniform chemical grey patination. Both the national and Baden cockades are in superb, original condition, appearing almost modern in their crispness, and the strap is likewise pristine.
The interior is equally impressive, with the skull and eight-tongue liner in matching light tan, showing only minor scuffing to the lower inner edges. The original leather drawstring remains intact, and the helmet is hand-applied with the regimental marking ‘JR111’. A faint manufacturer’s circular stamp and pencil-applied original owner’s name are visible on the skull. This is an exceptionally rare pickelhaube in near-perfect condition.
